Start the day right

Even though long weekends are usually associated with sleeping in and relaxing, you can still start the day right with a late morning stroll or jog. If waking up early isn’t really for you, try to squeeze in small physical activities during the day—even if it is just for 10 minutes at a time—by helping your loved ones find Easter eggs, or playing backyard soccer, cricket or rugby.

Fill up on eggs

Not all eggs during Easter have to be chocolate-coated. If you start your day with a nutritious breakfast of eggs and fibre, you will be able to face any cravings during the day.

Embrace the darkness

We are not talking about loadshedding here. You don’t have to deprive yourself of Easter treats. Instead of prohibiting yourself from eating any treats, rather opt for dark-chocolate coated treats that are high in cocoa and low in sugar. Dark chocolate is higher in antioxidants and lower in sugar and milk than white chocolate, and due to its richness, it will still satisfy your chocolate cravings for longer.

Make healthier alternatives

Sweet treats do not necessarily have to be high in sugar. If you dip a small portion of fresh fruit into melted dark chocolate, it will still feel like you are eating a sweet treat. You can also make your own sweet and healthy treats by mixing cocoa powder, nuts, seeds, grains and fruits and shaping it into Easter eggs. Another alternative is to make your own homemade hot cross buns by swapping white flour with whole-wheat flour and adding a variety of dried fruit.

Redefine your idea of Easter treats

An Easter egg hunt does not have to include a basket full of sweet treats. Hide real eggs or vegetables in the house or garden.

Stay hydrated

Hunger is often mistaken for dehydration. Without adequate hydration, you can feel tired, hungry and sluggish. Drink enough water to keep you hydrated and to prevent you from overindulging on hot cross buns or chocolate treats.

Add USN’s Zero Sugar Hydrator for extra hydration, whether before or after your Easter festivities. Zero Sugar Hydrator is an instant rehydration, precision-balanced athletic drink that replaces electrolytes and phosphates and reduces the risk of cramping.

But the most important Easter tip is to relax and spend quality time with your loved ones.
