Our bodies cannot make the Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids (EFAs), hence the name “essential.” It is essential that we obtain them from dietary sources. Most people get adequate quantities of Omega-6 from their diets. Glaringly missing in the majority of our diets are adequate amounts of Omega-3’s, which are vital for athletic performance and absolutely essential for overall health. Researchers have discovered that the Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio should be about 1:5 for optimal health. In many diets, the ratio is 1:20. The most widely available source of the Omega-3’s, EPA and DHA, is cold water oily fish such as salmon and sardines. Consumption of such fish 2-3 times a week is however simply not possible for most people.
USN Omega 3 contains high levels of Omega-3 Fatty Acids, and EPA and DHA in the recommended 18:12 ratio. Among their many benefits for athletic performance, DHA/EPA improve endurance by increasing mitochondrial efficiency via their positive effects on key substrates involved in energy production. For general health purposes, fish oils high in EPA and DHA provide one of the best defences against cardiovascular disease and are also well known for their positive influence on brain function, mood, mild depression, PMS, arthritis and other inflammatory conditions, such as migraines. They’re also important during pregnancy, nursing and infancy when a baby’s eyes, nerves and brain are developing.
